Orlando Player Wants to be Like Mike

A member of Orlando's University of Central Florida's basketball team wants to be like Mike, and it could cost the school a cool $3 million. Lots of college basketball players no doubt want to be like Michael Jordan, but in this particular student's case, who could blame him? The basketball player in question is Marcus Jordan, the son of basketball legend Michael Jordan. Of course when he takes to the court as a freshman later this year, he'll be wearing Air Jordan shoes. What else? No biggie, right? Wrong. That's because UCF has a fairly lucrative contract with…adidas.

New Epcot Attraction

Walt Disney World recently added a new attraction to its lineup at Epcot. The Sum of All Thrills ride is a simulator that allows guests to use math and science principles to customize and then experience their own thrill ride. Simulated experiences include bobsleds, roller coasters, and jet planes. Robotic arms suspend and move writers through the air.

Give a Day, Get a Day at Disney World

This year, spending your birthday at Walt Disney World or the Disneyland theme park will get you free admission to the park on the actual date of your birthday. For 2010, Disney is planning something a bit different.

Forever Florida!

Forever Florida is hosting the Second Annual Harvest Music Jam on October 10. The all-day concert features an eclectic mix music from seventeen different bands and will benefit the Allen Broussard Conservancy, an organization dedicated to nature conservation in Florida.

More Orlando Harry Potter News

Details about the planned Harry Potter attraction at Universal Orlando continue to trickle in--though just barely. Universal has announced a spring 2010 opening for "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" attraction.
Draco Malfoy, also known in the real world as actor Tom Felton said, "Universal has given me the great honor in revealing to the world that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening its gates, spring 2010."

Disney World Announced Fantasyland Refurbishment

Disney has announced plans for a major overhaul of Fantasyland at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The announcement was made at the D3 convention on September 12. An artist's rendering of how the new Fantasyland will look was also released by Disney.

Disney Teen Star Meet-and-greet

Disney teenage heartthrob Mitchel Musso will be appearing at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World for a meet-and-greet before his September 18 show at House of Blues Orlando in Downtown Disney. The time of the event is yet to be determined. Musso, who stars along with Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment in "Hannah Montana" on the Disney Channel, will be signing copies of his debut album on the same day as his House of Blues appearance.

There are several rules in place for the event, including:

• Guests won't be allowed to line up before 6:00 am
• Only one signed item per guest

Disney on Ice in Orlando

A whopping three traveling Disney on Ice shows will be making appearances in the Florida during the month of September. The newest show, Disney Celebrations, will be shown in Lakeland and Orlando, while Princess Classics will hit Tampa, Miami, and Sunrise. The Worlds of Fantasy show will appear in Ft. Meyers.

Happy Haunting at Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney at Walt Disney World will offer little ghosts and ghouls the opportunity to trick or treat for free on October 30 and 31 during the Happy Haunting days. Kids can dress up in their costumes and hit the streets of Downtown Disney during the early evening hours. They can collect candy and treats from a variety of Downtown Disney locations--tentative locations are Disney's Days of Christmas, World of Memories, DisneyQuest Emporium, Once Upon a Toy, Team Mickey, World of Disney, Pooh Corner, and Pin Traders. More locations may be added.

SeaWorld Orlando Gets Spooktacular

SeaWorld Orlando is planning a Spooktacular Celebration for this upcoming Halloween season. While Universal Orlando has its Halloween Horror Nights for the big kids and grownups who like to be scared nearly to death, SeaWorld is offering a gentler, more friendly Halloween celebration suitable for the tiniest of ghouls and ghosts. Kids will have the chance to see special Halloween-themed shows and get plenty of tricks and treats. They can even come in their costumes if they want!
