After a 16-year absence, Captain EO is returning to the screen at Disney World. The groundbreaking 17-minute 3D film starring Michael Jackson was a popular attraction at Disney World from 1986 to 1994. It will be shown at Epcot beginning July 2, 2010.

The film is already being shown again at Disneyland. It’s slated to open again at Disney Tokyo and Disney Paris. After Jackson’s death on June 25, 2009, guests of the Disney properties have been expressing their desire to see the film come back to the parks. Disney World spokesman Rick Sylvain said response to the film being shown at Disneyland has been “overwhelmingly positive.”

The film is a futuristic story with Michael Jackson as the hero. With the Electrical Parade being brought back to Disney World for the summer months, the resort will have a decidedly retro feel, which should make guests of young and old extremely happy.
