Disney has announced plans for a major overhaul of Fantasyland at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The announcement was made at the D3 convention on September 12. An artist's rendering of how the new Fantasyland will look was also released by Disney.

A few initial impressions--the area will include heavy emphasis on the Disney princesses--Belle, Cinderella, Little Mermaid, Aurora, and the rest of the gang. The Beauty and the Beast will also be represented with Gaston's Tavern and the Be Our Guest café. It looks like there will be more water features and garden areas to stroll in. Tinkerbell and her fairy friends will have plenty of space to hang around in Pixie Hollow. This attraction is already at Disneyland in California and has proven to be a very popular attraction.

The new Fantasyland will be in the same location as the current Fantasyland, and many of the old favorite attractions will remain including the spinning teacups, the flying Dumbo ride, the carousel, and Snow White's adventure.

Disney purists may need an adjustment period to let all of the changes soak in, but Disney is to be lauded for their continual drive to keep the parks new and fresh. It's part of what sets Disney apart from some of the other theme parks.
