It's Official: Legoland Coming to Florida

Legophiles, hold on a bit longer—it’s been made official—Central Florida can look forward to welcoming its very own Legoland amusement park in 2011. Even better, it will be the largest Legoland in the world. Take THAT, SoCal!

During a press conference held on January 21, it was announced that the park will be on the former site of Cypress Gardens and will include between forty and fifty attractions. Legoland plans on keeping the historic gardens area of Cypress Gardens intact.

The Splash Island Waterpark will continue to operate on the site, with separate admission from Legoland. Legoland hopes to preserve a bit more Cypress Gardens history by incorporating the two wooden rollercoasters and waterski show into the new theme park.

Florida’s Governor Charlie Crist announced that the new park could create as many as 1,000 jobs in the area. Legoland executives finally decided on the Cypress Gardens site because using an existing theme park infrastructure will shave several years and millions of dollars off the time and cost of creating a theme park from scratch.
