The Little Mermaid's Journey Under Construction

The Little Mermaid's Journey Under Construction

Disney’s California adventure in California already has it, and now the Magic Kingdom at Disney World Resort in Florida is getting it too. We’re talking about the Under the Sea—Journey of the Little Mermaid attraction currently under construction at Magic Kingdom’s Fantasyland—also under construction due to the major expansion the area is currently undergoing.

In the Little Mermaid attraction, guests will take a trip along the ocean floor with the Little Mermaid Ariel and her friends as they embark on an undersea adventure. This attraction uses Walt Disney Imagineering to produce advanced audio-animatronics figures and special effect to enable visitors to feel as if they’ve landed in Ariel’s world. Designers of the attraction have worked on every last detail—even down to Ariel’s hair, trying to solve the dilemma of how to make her hair look like it’s underwater even though the attraction is not underwater, and Ursula’s facial expressions—down to the slightest sneer. As they journey through this underwater adventure, guests will travel in an Omnimover clamshell (similar to the cars uses in the Haunted Mansion attraction) through various undersea scenes, lending a true underwater feel to the ride.

New Fantasyland attractions will be unveiled beginning in late 2012, with total completion slated for late 2013.
