Details about the planned Harry Potter attraction at Universal Orlando continue to trickle in--though just barely. Universal has announced a spring 2010 opening for "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" attraction.
Draco Malfoy, also known in the real world as actor Tom Felton said, "Universal has given me the great honor in revealing to the world that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening its gates, spring 2010."
The 20-acre Harry Potter attraction will be at the Islands of Adventure Theme Park. The rumored $200 million expansion will include a Harry Potter ride, called "Harry Potter and the Forbidden Adventure." A spokesman for Universal insisted it will not be a roller coaster but it will be a "full-emersion" experience and will involve entering Hogwart's Castle and being in the Gryffindor Common Room. Details are still sketchy to this point, but scenes from the Harry Potter films and books will be part of the attraction.
The Orlando Sentinel is reporting a few juicy tidbits:
• There will be plenty of Harry Potter-themed food and drink, including butterbeer, a nonalcoholic concoction featured in the stories.
• There will be a wand shop where people purchasing wands will enjoy the experience of having the wands "choose" their owner, just like they do in the books.
• Guests will be able to send mail that will be postmarked "Hogsmeade" from the Owl Post.
• Two existing roller coasters will be re-themed for the attraction
