New Attraction at SeaWorld's Aquatica Water Park

A new attraction is coming to Aquatica, the water park at SeaWorld Orlando. The attraction, called Omaka Rocka, will have two slides and three funnels. The name is taken from the South Seas name for "rocking river." The tube will be semi-transparent, allowing guests walking underneath to see the people on the ride.

Riders will travel in two-seater inner tubes and will have an experience that has been likened to a BMX bike or skateboard ride. A park official said, "[riders will] slide up one side and get a sensation of near weightlessness. They'll come down that side and back up the other. They'll probably be going backwards, but most definitely going to be screaming. It's going to be a taste of a half-pipe — near vertical thrills experienced only by skateboarders or snowboarders."

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that the addition of Omaka Rocka is the first expansion of Aquatica since it opened two years ago. Omaka Rocka is slated to open in March 2010. So far, it's the only addition to Aquatica planned for 2010, even though there have been rumors to the contrary. Construction will start in mid-January.
