Space Mountain Due for Overhaul
Space Mountain Due for Overhaul
Guests visiting Disney World now through November expecting a trip through outer space may be disappointed--the Space Mountain attraction is closed for major refurbishment until November. The closure is noted on the park's Web site and also on the daily schedule posted at the front of the park, but there are still bound to be plenty of park guests caught off guard. There's also reportedly a sign board at the entrance to Tomorrowland, to keep guests from having to walk all the way to the attraction just to be turned away.
Disney officials have been very tight-lipped about the planned changes. It's been reported that the queue area will be overhauled and be turned into an interactive experience. Not much more information is available.
Space Mountain opened in 1975 and has never had a major refurbishment. There have been minor upgrades during the almost 35 years the attraction has been at the park. Space Mountain is among only a handful of attractions that are present in all Disney parks. Top speed of the ride is less than 30 miles per hour.
When planning a trip to any of the Orlando theme parks, it's always a good idea to check the Web sites for the parks early and often.
