Star Tours Undergoes Facelift

For many Star Wars and Disney fans, the bad news is that the Star Tours ride at Disney World Resort’s Hollywood Studios is being decommissioned in October 2010. The good news is that the ride is being updated and the new ride, Star Tours II, will be unveiled in 2011.

This simulator ride was ahead of its time when it first appeared in Disneyland in 1987 and later at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The updated ride will include a high-definition, Disney Real 3-D screen, an improved motion simulator, and effects updated to reflect the technological advances of ride engineering that have occurred in the almost-25 years since the ride’s inception.

The decommissioning of the ride, called “Last Tour to Endor” will begin on August 14 during the Star Wars Celebration V event at Disney World. The event will give Star Wars fans and fans of the ride one last chance to enjoy the nostalgia of the ride before it’s updated. The Last Tour to Endor party will include themed party zones, Star Wars shows, Death Star Disco, a fireworks display, and much more.
