Universal Florida has announced the date the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area and attractions will open: The magic officially begins on June 18!

First impressions for a media-only sneak preview have been favorable. The area is very detailed and does a great job of invoking the world brought to life by J.K. Rowling. As a matter of fact, Universal worked closely with Rowling to bring authenticity to the World. Potter-philes will have a great time spotting the tiny details known only to those that have done a close reading of the fictional series of books, but Potter novices will enjoy the area as well.

Some initial highlights:

• There will be a life-size replica of Hogwart’s express, along with the train station as it appears in the Harry Potter movies.

• Hogwart’s Castle will house a dark ride called Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

• Guests can walk past some of the same shops that are seen in the movie, and though they won’t be able to go in all of them, they will be able to look in the windows and see the insides of the shops as they appear in the movies.

• Dumbledore is present thanks to the magic of theme park technology. There will be no live Harry Potter characters.

• There will be gift shops and eating establishments also invoking the Harry Potter films and books.
